This device monitors glucose level and delivers insulin automatically for people over age 14 with type 1 diabetes. Administering insulin based on blood glucose measurement is the Medtronic's MiniMed 670G hybrid closed looped system, known as The Artificial Pancreas.
Monitoring glucose, the FDA- approved device is made up of a sensor (measures glucose under the skin), insulin pump, an infusion patch and a computer chip which uses data to optimize insulin every five (5) minutes.
This device encourages freedom for type 1 diabetics and eliminates the manual process of monitoring glucose levels; administering glucose has never been easier.
Scheduled to be available in fall of 2017, hope is brought to millions with T1D.
FDA Approved First Artificial Pancreas.

Nice blog Mishael. I didn't even know a device like this existed! I think this is an interesting, not to mention efficient, development as managing type 1 diabetes can be a challenge. With a device like this, there is no need for manual injection of insulin nor the use of the injection pump.
ReplyDeletethis is fantastic.. but I fear that soon we will be human robots.. almost everything in the human body is being replace by artificial intelligence.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a leap and is probably in the same category as the pacemaker and the brain chip used to control artificial limbs.
